Passengers with a handicap
Autonomous boarding with a wheelchair is already possible on some routes of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. For example, in the Zermatt Shuttle between Täsch and Zermatt. Most trains between Visp and Zermatt also run with low-floor carriages and the stations have been converted accordingly. Our Customer Centre will be happy to provide you with information on the situation for the journey you are planning. The conversion of all stations is planned until 2023 and we are making good progress.
At the SBB Call Center Handicap, passengers with reduced mobility can order free assistance for getting on and off the train up to 24 hours before departure. For requests at shorter notice, please contact our Customer Centre directly.
Tickets: Travellers with a disability are required to show an identification card (accompanying person's card for Swiss citizens). Persons resident in Switzerland who are dependent on an accompanying person are entitled to free travel for the assisting person and/or a guide dog for the blind. A single ticket will be sufficient for all. Important: The accompanying person must be able to assist you during the entirety of the journey. Disabled and accompanying persons who are not resident in Switzerland are not eligible for a discount.
