Oberwald – Visp Bike Trail

From Visp, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn will take you directly into the Goms. A wonderful round bike tour amidst stunning scenery can be enjoyed on the bike trail along the young Rhône river between Niederwald and Oberwald. From our own experience, we can recommend that you take the train to Oberwald from where you can take advantage of the gentle downward slope towards Visp for effortless cycling. Excellent stopping points for a break are Münster which has a recreational facility with a large playground and restaurant in the vicinity of the airport. Alternatively, a little further on, also Reckingnen where a beautifully situated outdoor swimming pool awaits to cool you. Although it is difficult to give a specific age recommendation for when children can cycle with you, we think that from the age of 6 years the route should be easy to complete, provided that no time restrictions are set and a day is set aside for the entire trip.

Bike Trail Rhone route Oberwald - Visp

Please note that when deciding on your embarkation station for your return travel, the bike trail in the Fiesch/Ernen region includes a long loop in the Binntal valley. The only alternative to this is the narrow and heavily used cantonal road. The essentially entails an element of risk and is in no way suitable for onward travel with children. We wish you a wonderful trip and much enjoyment on one of the beautiful bike routes!

Limited capacity

Depending on the type of vehicle, our trains have room for 10-12 bicycles. Please note that carriage capacity for bikes may be limited on certain connections when demand is high – usually when the weather is nice – and the carriage of bikes is not guaranteed.
